Our Southern Maine Home Builder Services

Five kinds of work, one owner on every site, and the same planning discipline from a full custom home to the drawings that come before one.

  • Founded in 2021
  • 4-6 active builds at a time
  • Written 5-year workmanship warranty

Our Southern Maine home builder services cover five kinds of work, and every one runs on the same system Joe Hausler used on commercial projects. Pick the service closest to your plans below.

What do our Southern Maine home builder services include?

Our home builder services include everything from the first walk of the lot to the final walkthrough, under one contract with one builder. We handle the design, the permits, the site work, the trades and the finish, so nothing falls between two companies.

Custom homes are the center of the work. Additions, garages and remodels get the same plans-first approach, scaled to the job.

How does every Legacy Construction project start?

Every Legacy Construction project starts with Joe on the site, on your land, at your house or on a lot you are thinking about buying. Then come four to six weeks of drawings and specifications, and the price is fixed on those complete plans.

Maine does not license general contractors, so vet us on what is real. We carry $2,000,000 in general liability and workers' compensation, and every home gets a written 5-year workmanship warranty.

What if your project spans more than one service?

A project that spans more than one service stays under one contract with us. An addition with a new kitchen, or a custom home with a detached garage, is still one schedule and one builder answering for it.

Not sure where your project starts? Call us and Joe will point you to the right service before you have to guess from a list.

Meet the owner: Joe Hausler

Founder and Owner, Legacy Construction · Portland, Maine

You deal with Joe, not a sales rep.

Joe started swinging a hammer next to his father at eight years old, then left for college to study construction management.

He spent the next 15 years in commercial construction, working up from assistant project manager to overseeing developments as large as $300 million: office towers, mixed-use buildings, institutional work where one mistake costs millions.

He moved back to Maine on January 1, 2021 to build the company he had been planning for years. He holds a Maine real estate license too, so he can help clients find and judge land before they buy it.

  • 15 years managing commercial construction, up to a $300 million development
  • Founded Legacy Construction in 2021
  • 4-6 active builds at a time, by design

Education and credentials

  • Degree in construction management
  • Maine real estate license

Maine does not license general contractors, so there is no license to wave at you. What Joe offers instead is a fixed-price contract, a written 5-year warranty, and his own eyes on every phase.

What do homeowners say about us?

We spoke with several contractors before choosing Legacy Construction and are glad we did. Their communication was excellent, and they handled every detail of our project with care. They take pride in their work, and it shows in the final product.

Bek H., Buxton, ME, home build

Excellent experience with Legacy Construction. Highly recommend their services for anyone looking for a quality custom home builder in Maine.

Julie W., Freeport, ME

Legacy Construction built an addition onto our home, and the quality is outstanding. The new space blends perfectly with the original house. They worked with us on budget and design and were always upfront about costs and options. Very professional from start to finish.

What do people ask about our services?

The service that fits your project is usually clear once we see the land or the house. New construction runs through custom home building, and work on a house you already own runs through additions or general contracting.
