- Founded in 2021
- 4-6 active builds at a time
- Written 5-year workmanship warranty
Legacy Construction builds custom homes across Portland and Southern Maine, along with the additions and garages that go with them. We keep four to six builds going at a time, by design.
Every house starts with full plans and a fixed price, and Joe Hausler reviews each phase before the next crew moves in.
That is how we build a house meant for the next century, not the next inspection.
Legacy Construction is run by Joe Hausler, who spent 15 years managing commercial construction, up to a $300 million development, before coming home to Maine in 2021 to build custom homes.
- A fixed price on finished plans. We spend four to six weeks on design and drawings, then sign one price for the house you actually want. Change orders stay rare because the problems get solved on paper.

Meet the owner: Joe Hausler
Founder and Owner, Legacy Construction · Portland, Maine
You deal with Joe, not a sales rep.
Joe started swinging a hammer next to his father at eight years old, then left for college to study construction management.
He spent the next 15 years in commercial construction, working up from assistant project manager to overseeing developments as large as $300 million: office towers, mixed-use buildings, institutional work where one mistake costs millions.
He moved back to Maine on January 1, 2021 to build the company he had been planning for years. He holds a Maine real estate license too, so he can help clients find and judge land before they buy it.

Maine does not license general contractors, so there is no license to wave at you. What Joe offers instead is a fixed-price contract, a written 5-year warranty, and his own eyes on every phase.
